Olive oil vs. Coconut oil.

[ad_1]

Olive oil vs. Coconut oil. Olive oil and coconut oil are often considered two of the healthier oils to use in our cooking. Both of them can be healthy but olive oil is slightly ahead of coconut oil when it comes to some of the more important metrics. .
.
Olive oil has more calories by weight than coconut oil but by a negligible amount. Olive oil is mainly the monounsaturated fat oleic acid. Monounsaturated fats are said to be the good fats where saturated fats are thought to be less healthy but not inherently bad. Coconut oil is primarily saturated fat. Olive oil also has omega 3 fatty acids whereas coconut oil does not. .
.
The oleic acid in olive oil has many benefits to our health. It has anti-inflammatory properties, helps combat heart disease, and even can help prevent some forms of cancer. It is important to remember that any sort of oil is high in calories and eating too much is certainly not a good thing as it will lead to weight gain and other negative health consequences. But as long as you stay within your means, the fats in olive oil and coconut oils are healthy and even needed for optimal health. .
.
Coconut oil may not have many mono/polyunsaturated fats or omega 3s but that doesn’t mean it’s unhealthy. Coconut oil contains antioxidants that will assist in fighting oxidative stress. This can lead to less inflammation and lowered blood pressure. Coconut oil is a medium chain triglyceride meaning that it can use different transport systems in the body making them more efficient to be used as energy. .
.
The body of research on olive oil is much more expansive than that of coconut oil. Because of this I believe olive oil is the better choice at this time. Olive oil has more mono/polyunsaturated fats and omega 3s. Until more defined data comes around about coconut oil, I would lean towards extra virgin olive oil for most of your cooking. .
