Golden tofu with sweet and 🌶️ sauce, anyone?
Happy Friday, everyone🤗! This week sure flies by fast for me, what about you, any plans for the weekend? Sharing a simple tofu dish that was fried into golden brown and smothered with a delicious sauce that my mom always made for me back at home. She called it Thai style tofu.😍
~ 1 package of firm tofu, drained(*see step below) cut into 8 large cubes
~ 1/4 cup shredded cucumber
~ 3 tablespoons sliced red onion
~ oil for frying
~ salt to taste
Sauce or use Thai chili sauce:
~ 1/4 cup water
~ 1 tablespoon sugar
~ 1 tablespoon lime juice
~ 1 tablespoon soy sauce
~ 1 tablespoon chopped Thai chili or 1 teaspoon chili flakes
~ 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
Using a tall pan fill with heated oil, immerse tofu (my oil covers 1/4 of tofu), and fry tofu until all sides turn golden brown (flip them around as you cook). Drain on a paper towel and sprinkle some sea salt over.
Whisk together water, sugar, soy sauce, garlic and chili in a bowl. In a small pan, pour sauce mixture in and cook until sugar caramelizes and sauce starts to thicken. Turn off heat and stir in like juice.
Top tofu with sauce, then cucumbers and onion. Serve immediately.
Baking method: Place tofu on a baking sheet layered with parchment paper, rub tofu with oil and bake at 375F until golden brown about 20 minutes, flip halfway. Season tofu with salt when ready.

🌱Press the whole block between two plates lined with paper towels and top the whole setup with a heavy can. This will press out excess moisture from the tofu and make adding flavor easier🌱
