Asian Turkey Bowls
.
Swapping out turkey for beef is one way you can add more calories to a dish without adding any extra volume. On the left side is 93/7 turkey and on the right is 85/15 beef. If you equated the fat between the meats the macros and calories would be nearly identical. However, lean beef is always super expensive at my store so I never buy it. I made these bowls with beef yesterday because ground beef was on sale and a couple of dollars cheaper than turkey. Ground beef and ground turkey are almost always interchangeable in recipes. Keep that in mind when you are shopping sales or looking to manipulate calorie totals. .
.
Everything in these two meals is the same apart from the type of meat. Another way to manipulate these meals is to change up the vegetables. The calorie load of the vegetables will be fairly similar for everything that is non starchy. Choosing seasonal stuff can be a nice touch to your meals because you’re picking stuff that is at its peak flavor and you might save some money. When squashes are in season they would work perfectly in place of the peppers here. Be confident. Make changes. Fit how your preferences. .
