Spicy tempeh Sloppy Joe’s sliders – who wants a share??

This filling is full of flavor from tempeh, mushrooms, and tomato paste. If you haven’t had tempeh before, give this dish a try, it’s super yummy and the texture is ?

Recipe
Ingredients:
~ 1 pack of mini hamburger buns
~ 1 pack of 3grain tempeh
~ 1 small onion, minced
~ 4 cloves of garlic, minced
~ about 4 caps of crimini/baby bella, chopped finely
~ 3 tablespoons of chopped bell pepper
~ 1 tablespoon tomato paste
~ 1 tablespoon butter plus more for buns
~ 2 teaspoon ? oil
~ dash of liquid smoke (optional)
Sauce:
~ 1/4 cup water
~ 2-3 tablespoons ketchup
~ 1.5 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, used @annieshomegrown
~ 1 tablespoon soy sauce
~ 3 teaspoons brown sugar
~ 2 teaspoons mustard
~ 1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper

Whisk together sauce ingredients in a bowl and set aside. Crumble tempeh into pieces with your fingers, place them in a heated nonstick pan with 1 teaspoon ? oil, and cook until lightly brown. Remove and set aside. Using the same pan, melt butter, and sauté onion and garlic until soft, then drizzle the remaining ? oil, add mushrooms, bell peppers and cook for another 2 minutes. Add tempeh and sauce, cook until sauce is reduced. Season with salt if needed. Serve on a buttered toasted buns.
