Recipe (yields 3 servings)
?Ingredients:
~ 16oz firm tofu, drained & cut into cubes
~ 1 cup of chopped broccoli, blanched
~ oil, cornstarch, sesame seeds
?Sauce:
~ 1 teaspoon minced ginger
~ 1 teaspoon minced garlic
~ 3 dried chilis, seeds removed & softened in hot water
~ Mix together 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 1.5 tablespoons maple syrup (or 1 tablespoon organic sugar), 1 tablespoon Chinese black vinegar/rice vinegar, 1 teaspoon corn starch in 3 tablespoons water until well combined.
*gluten-free: sub soy sauce with tamari
✅To make the marinade, mix together 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon maple syrup, 2 teaspoons chili sauce, a pinch of salt & a few dashes of white pepper until it’s all incorporated in a shallow bowl. Add in tofu cubes & let them marinate for at least 30 mins or overnight (flip it occasionally so all sides are coated in the marinade).
✅When ready, rub tofu with a thin layer of cornstarch. Pan fry tofu in a heated non-stick pan with 2 teaspoons oil (adjust oil accordingly based on the size of the pan) until golden brown on all sides. Let cool.
✅To make the sauce, add 2 teaspoons of oil in a non-stick pan, then saute ginger followed by garlic until aromatic by stirring continuously. Add in chili pepper & stir fry for a few seconds. Pour in sauce mixture & let it simmer for a min or two until slightly thickened. Add blanched broccoli, tofu & give it a quick toss until all tofu is coated with sauce. Sprinkle tofu with some sesame seeds before serving.
