My self-serve breakfast of rice with arame seaweed, spinach and pickled vegetables in Tagajo (Miyagi Prefecture in the region of Tohoku, Japan). Check out Episode 3 of the Go:Tohoku web series as @cheapcourage, @thesocialpause, @tommylundberg, and I enjoy a scenic boat ride on Geibikei Gorge and partake in a meditative calligraphy lesson at Chūson-ji Temple. ?? _______________
Growing up, I often prefer a savory breakfast, and since our trip to Tohoku, I’ve started most of my mornings with a simplified traditional Japanese breakfast of salmon (seasoned with soy sauce) on rice and a mug of hot green tea. Salmon is one of the few fishes that taste fine as leftovers. Most people will turn their noses at eating fish for breakfast, but I’ve found that the lean protein keeps me pretty full for a good five hours until lunch time.
