This is a little bowl of good memories, made with soba noodles purchased from the Azumaya Soba Shop in Morioka, the capital city of Iwate Prefecture in the Tohoku region of northern Japan. While it’s nice to bring a little bit of Tohoku back home, it’s not as fun eating this without @cheapcourage, @thesocialpause and @tommylundberg.

A small amount of these noodles were cooked for about 3 minutes in boiling water. Pluck one out of the water to taste. It comes with a sauce pack, but I’m saving it for a later use. I mixed the noodles with a bit of soy sauce, sesame oil, and topped with ikura, scallions and sesame for a light snack or lunch.

According to Wikipedia, “Wanko soba is a style of Japanese soba noodles originating from Iwate Prefecture in Japan, particularly Morioka and Hanamaki. It consists of a small serving of soba noodles in small bowls. In this soba experience, you quickly eat your soba noodles and get your bowl immediately refilled in repetition.” Pro tip: discard the broth so you can eat more noodles.
